What Don REALLY Did Last Night
Bolg (noun): A blog about nothing.
Joined some volunteers from the Halberstadt Campaign in delivering the last of our BBQ flyers. Once that was finished I made a trip to Wal-Mart to pick up some BBQ supplies, then home to do some laundry. Janet came over and we watched 40-Year Old Virgin.
After work I headed home, had some dinner and watched some television while working on the website. At some point in the evening I was going to start watching a movie but never got around to it. Eventually I went to sleep.
Went home, read, ate. Went with Mar to go get her nose ring changed. I tried helping her with it the night before, but the new ring was a little too curved to get through and i didn't think my pliers were sterile enough to straighten it a bit. When we got home, i mowed the lawn, then folded all my laundry and put it away. Did a little maintenance on my computer, watched some tv (Season primier of Weeds, great show. Also watched, It's always sunny in philidelphia..pretty funny) and went to bed.
After work I headed to subway to grab a quick bite to eat before the game. Following dinner it was off to baseball. Our schedule for the games changed slightly upon arrival and we wound up playing one game then breaking for drinks before playing the second. It appeared as though drinking was a key element in our performance as we managed to squeeze out a tie in the last game of the season. After a celebratory round of drinks at Stanely's I headed to Cramdon's for the remainder of the evening.
Went home, bbq'd up some supper. Did a little bit of car maintanence. Made a quick trip to homedepot, worked on a few things around the house. Mar came home and we went to check on her friend's cats. We watched a bit of tv and went to bed.
Stopped at Zehrs on the way home, picked up a little sushi for dinner. Went home and ate quickly before heading over to Alan's for some flyer delivering (campaign launch BBQ is Thursday). After a couple hours of that and a short meeting I returned home and read and watched TV before going to sleep.
Went home, read, ate. Went with Mar to the east end walmart, then to staples. Came back home, some adt guy was trying to sell us a home security package for free, he just wanted to look around our home. I told him we'd call instead if we were interested, he kept peering around me into the house, all a little too strange for me to actually let him in the house. Then Mar's friend stopped by for a few minutes to drop off some keys so we could cat sit. I worked out, watched a bit of tv, then went to bed.
After work I headed to my sisters house to supervise while some forms were put in. By 6:00 they still hadn't shown up so I decided to take some friends up on their offer to join them for dinner in LaSalle (@ the Mich). After dinner I returned to my sisters place to watch Prison Break. Once that wrapped up I headed home for the evening.
Thursday: Went out to Bell Island for the day. Took a tour of the mine and had Newfie chicken wings (a great option for any of you considering suicide, your heart is liable to quit at any moment).
Friday night started out with a brief party at Craig's condo (consisting of drinking and trying to get his new MCE 2005 OS running properly). After relaxing a bit we grabbed some McDonalds and headed downtown. We continued the evening roaming from bar to bar getting as many cheap drinks in us as we could. Eventually we all headed back to Craig's to continue the party. We lounged around there and played PS2 for the rest of the night.
Friday: Went home, read, ate. Can't really remember what we did friday night. I think i installed some software on a palm pilot that a friend of my dad game me.
After work I headed to Tutto's restaurant for dinner with friends. Following dinner we ll returned to Brian's to relax. After a few drinks there I headed to the Brick House for the remainder of the evening until eventually heading home.
Went home, ate dinner. Drove over to Mar's parent's place to meet up with her sister's lot and go over to their grandparents at the same time. Visited with her grandparents, showed them the pictures of our vegas trip. Then headed back to her parents place, Mar wanted to spend a bit of time with her aged cat. When we got home i watched the daily show and went to bed. Too bad about Rob Cordrey leaving the show, i wonder what he's going to do now.
After work I stuck around and worked for a couple more hours. I then made a trip to the mall and wandered around there for a while. Eventually I headed to Bres & Cues for some dinner and drinks. I eventually returned home, watched a little bit of tv and quickly fell asleep.
Went home, bbq'd up some riblets. Mar and I went for a bike ride. Came home, worked out, watched a bit of How William Shatner Changed the World. Then chatted with Mar watched mythbuster, some daily show and colbert and went to bed.
Monday: Took a walk around downtown St. John's and had some great sushi for lunch. After that we stopped by a fishing boat belonging to Herb's friend and took a walk up to Fort Amherst. Took a walk along the beach while Herb did some fishing. For dinner we had some halibut provided by Herb's friend. Afterwards we watched Jaws.
After work I headed to Jay's place to pick up my sisters hockey stick. From there I left for the Wrap Shack for dinner and to drop of said hockey stick. Following dinner I killed some time at my sisters place while I waited for the evening plans to come to light. Eventually I headed to the mall for coffee at Moxies followed by drinks at Cramdon's.
Trying to slowly get back into the good old routine. Went home, was out of propane for the bbq, so we got that filled. Then i bbq'd up some shishkibobs. Mar and i talked more about some wedding issues being stressed over. Mar's sister and nephew came over. By the time they left i was exhausted, but stayed up to watch the daily show and fell asleep through a bit of the colbert report, then headed off to bed.
After work I made a brief stop off at the mall to catch up with my cousin. From there I headed home, had some dinner, watched some television and did a minimal amount of work on a website I'm putting together.
Went home, ate some supper. Went to zehrs to get some more pictures developped. Then we headed to the mall to get the ring sized as it was a bit too big and Mar was afraid it might fall off her finger sometime. Then we went over to her sister's to drop off her dad's camera and went home. Mar watered her flowers, and after we watched the movie poseidon, it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be.
Friday night from work Derek and I headed to Papa Cheney's to start drinking and grab some dinner. Following that we made our way down to Honest lawyer to meet up with everyone else. We then caught the tunnel bus and headed to the Fox to see Dave Chapelle. The show wrapped up around 1:00 so we missed our shot at grabbing the bus back to Canada. On our quest to find a cab back Derek and I came across a dead racoon on the sidewalk. It appeared he died of either natural causes or a cocaine overdose (results pending). We eventually caught a cab back to Windsor (don't ever cab across the border, it's ridiculously expenseive). Upon returning we wandered the street until eventually settling on Schwarma Palace for a quick bite to eat before heading home for the night.
Ok, we did go to vegas. Had an awesome time. Got engaged to Marlene on the first night there. We went up the half scale replica of the eiffel tower, overlooking the bellagio fountain show, i got down on one knee and proposed. Suprisingly she said yes.
Friday: Made a frantic attempt to get everything done before leaving for Newfoundland. Results were mixed.
Only a few hours left in this stressful vacation. I can't wait to board the plane for a relaxing, uneventful flight back home. If there's one thing I love, it's relaxing, uneventful flights. I'm really glad of the increased security at the airports, because I wouldn't want any kind of creatures being deposited on my mode of transporation. If there's one thing I hate it's motherfuckin' (insert animals) on my motherfuckin' (insert mode of transportation).
After a quick trip to Staples I met up with Janet at Cramdon's for dinner. We took a walk down to Baskin Robbin's for some ice cream, then stopped in at a friend's place to pick up some stuff. After that we went back to my place where I made phone calls and did some campaign stuff while Janet read.
After work I headed home to grab a quick bite to eat and then headed to my meeting for 7:00. Following the meeting I headed to Brian's to hang out for a while. From there it was off to the Brick House for the show, some drinks, and a couple apps (I highly recommend the Spinach Dip). Later in the evening I headed home to bed.
The Hoff and I went out for a nice little drive today in my Fiero. We happened across a serene little patch of ashphalt in the middle of the desert. I stopped the car looked over at The Hoff. I made a serious face and said, "Yo Hoff, get out." The Hoff looked all surprised and shocked, and he's all like, "What's the deal Don? You just gonna leave out there in the desert all alone with my video camera?" I smile at The Hoff and say, "Hoff, my brother, I've got a little red light running to do." The Hoff, scrunched up his face as if to say "Huh?". I pointed to the side of the road. "Dude, you just go get your leather-jacketed ass out there and get ready to document the most fierawsomest burnout this world has ever known. You just point that video camera at me and when I see that red light come on, ol' D. Armstrong is gonna go." The Hoff went outside and, well, the rest is, as I say, history. The Hoff captured arguably my most triumphant red-light-running Fiero burnout of all time (while in Vegas). I invented the red light on video cameras.
Went to my parents for dinner, then met up with Janet at my place. We watched the second half of Total Recall and called it a night.
After work I headed home for dinner and to hear all about my parents vacation. They took some amazing pictures of Europe and had a ton of stories to tell. We later had dinner and were presented with our souveniers. Once all of that wrapped up I headed in to meet up with people at Brews & Cues. After a couple of rounds there we moved the party to Spicoli's for a couple hours before calling it a night.
After work I headed to my sisters place for dinner (she was picking up steaks). I fired up the grill and returned to the house while it heated up. As I went back out I noticed the knobs were completly engulfed in flames so I returned to the house for some water to extinguish the flames. by the time I made it outside the hose the pumps the propane from the tank into the bbque had detached and converted itself into a flame throwed shooting out a stream of fire. I manuevered my way around the flame and shut off the propane. Shortly thereafter I doused the hose with some water to put out the remaining fire. Needless to say, the steak was not cooked and we wound up at Subway for dinner. After that I headed to baseball. Following baseball I hung around with the team for a bit before eventually returning home to clean up in preparation for my parents return.
While Mar took some more of our spending money to go shopping I stayed behind to figure out a way to pay off our mini-bar tab. Then it dawned on me, Vegas is full of trash, and trash includes cans, which can be sold to a recycling company for cold, hard $!
On the way home I stopped by Zehrs and picked up some food, then met Janet and my place for dinner. From there we headed down to Essex for an Ontario PC meeting. After the meeting I raced into Windsor to join the team for baseball. After two humiliating losses I enjoyed a couple beers and a quesedilla before heading home.
I got home, took a short nap, made dinner, and then braced myself for making phone calls to strangers. Got through half of the 2003 volunteer list and decided that was enough for one night. Janet came over and we went to Murphy's for a drink.
Well, it's my first night in Vegas (turns out all that other non-sense I wrote about was just a dream). We checked into the hotel, and you know who immediately went for the minibar. You can get surprisingly drunk if you drink a dozen or so of those miniature bottles in rapid succession. I'll probably spend the rest of the week trying to find a way out of paying for them.
After work I headed home, lounged around watching tv and trying to find acceptable clipart/graphics for a website I'm working on and thought about what to have for dinner. I eventually settled on Chineese food. After dinner I continued my television watching and went to bed.
While we don't actually know what Don did over the weekend, I think it might have gone a little something like this...
Friday: Went to new employee night at Lily Kazillee's where we somehow managed to lose at volleyball to the accounting team. Hung around for a while after and had another drink before heading home for the night.
Friday night consisted mainly of the trip over to Ford Field to catch the Lion's first preseason game. They managed to pull off a win, but you must bear in mind it's preseason so both teams pretty much let everyone have a shot at their turn on the field. After the game we hung around downtown for a bit and eventually wound up at Jay's for a few drinks.
I went to the mall to look at watches, but didn't find any I liked on sale, so I'll keep looking. I then picked up a couple of Alan's signs to give to the guy who's doing the campaign website and paid my M/C bill before heading down Murphy's for dinner with some friends. Around 9 Janet and I left Murphy's and returned to my place where I worked on a fundraising letter and Janet watched some kind of CSI rip-off.
After work I headed to my sisters house to discuss some website updates for Blackstone. We picked up some dinner and watched some tv before I eventually headed out. After a quick stop at Rock Bottom we continued on to the Brick House for the remainder of the evening. I late headed home, watched some more television and went to sleep.
Went home, read, ate. Decided to skip shoe shopping altogether as i was way too tired and i really do hate shopping. Mar went out with some of her friends, so i stayed home and worked on cleaning up my computer. She came home, we watched a bit of tv and went to bed.
Went home, left with my Mar and my sister to go to costco. Grabbed a bite to eat at mega wraps before we went shopping. Got some pants at costco, then called the parents and headed out to their place. Borrowed some luggage from them and visited for a bit, then headed back home. Worked out, watched some tv and then went to bed.
After work I headed home for a dinner meeting to discuss a website I have been requested to piece together. Following the meeting I returned home, cut the grass and lounged around the house until eventually heading to Brews & Cues for a couple of hours. I later returned home and headed to bed.
I got a quick haircut after work, then went over to Gateway Park because there was an article in the paper about it last week and Janet and I were thinking about volunteering. As it turns out the claim that the Friends of Gateway Park meet every Wed at 6pm in the parking lot turned out to be a ruse - although there was a nice man there offering us candy and a ride in his van.
I headed home after work to change and eat some food before heading to baseball. We put together a good effort and managed a 22-22 tie for the second game. After baseball I had some drinks with the team (not just one courtesy drink, but several, because I genuinely like my team mates) before heading home to meet up with Janet.
After work I headed straight to baseball. Following the games I stuck around for a round of drinks with the team and then eventually headed off to Cramdon's. Later in the evening I returned home to watch a little television while I drifted off to sleep.
Went home, read, bbq'd. Mar went for a walk with one of her friends. I stayed home, entered some movies into a movie database program. Mar got back and visited with the girl for a while, giving her a tour of our place, then i walked them back after dark. We watched a bit of tv and went to bed.
Friday night I had people over to my place (my parents are out of town so I saw it as a good opportunity to throw an impromptu party). We just lounged around outside on the deck drinking and swapping stories about ramdon events.
Friday: Went over to my parent's place for dinner, BBQ'd some salmon-on-a-plank and scallops. Around 10 Janet and I went downtown to meet up with some friends for a birthday outing. Spend the rest of the night at the Beach (note to self: some 18 year old girls called and they want their hangout back). Finished up with a Falafel at La Shwarma.
Friday: Went home, read, ate. We went with Mar's sister, brother-in-law and nephew to amherstburg to get ice cream and walk along the river. After that, we came home, watched a bit of tv and went to bed.
After leaving work I dropped by Memorial Park to scout out an event location. Amazingly I managed to get stuck waiting for a train on Walker on the way there and the way back.
Went home, read, ate. We headed out shopping again, i haven't bought new clothes in years, now i think i'm almost set again for another 6-7 yrs. Went home, worked out, watched some tv and went to bed.
Had a campaign meeting at Bubbi's with Alan Halberstadt and a couple others. From there I went on to Janet's place because her sister and brother in law were down from Calgary. Hung out with them and had a few beers before calling it a night and heading home.
Went home, read, bbq'd up some supper. Went shopping with Mar. Got home, watched a bit of tv and went to bed.
Went home took, took a little nap, then got up and made some dinner. Worked on a Conservative fundraiser and then on some stuff for Alan Halberstadt's campaign*. Was expecting Janet to be done work and to go over there, but she had to stay late. Eventually (after the Daily Show and Colbert Report) I called it a night.
After work I headed back to the hotel for an hour or so before eventually meeting up with Jackie and heading out to Mississauga. Upon arriving we watched some tv and ordered some pizza for dinner. Before the pizza arrived Jackie received a phone call of a death in the family so we wound up driving her to Kitchener/Waterloo to meet up with more family on route back to Chatham. I then returned to TO for a short nights sleep.
Went home, got the mail, ate supper. Mar watered her flowers and i kept her company. Then we went through our pictures for the year and picked the ones we wanted, then took out all the red eye. My parents stopped by and dropped off two old school vcrs that we bought from a friend of my dad. Then we watched a bit of tv and headed off to bed.
The bolg has inspired many reactions during it's short time in existence. Chiefly a yawn or a dumbfounded "don't you guys have anything better to do?" But many are fascinated by the fact that somewhere between 2 to 6 people have been motivated to give, with dubious regularlity, detailed accounts of their evenings for almost no reason that are then read by an astoundingly small audience. The amount of effort (as time is the scarcest resource of all) that is put into bolging implies that there is something greater than the bolg itself which is contained within the activity of bolging.
After work a few of us went out for drinks at the bar down the street. From there it was off to Mississauga again for dinner with friends. Following dinner we all headed back to Alaina's apartment to watch some television. Eventually I headed back downtown to the hotel and went to sleep while watching a small bit of the Daily Show.
Went home, read. My parents came over, Mar and I went with them to arby's for supper. Then we headed off to costco, figured i'd get some socks since i was down to my last pair without holes. We then came back home, visited for a bit. My parents left, we worked out a bit, watched some tv and went to bed.
